Sharing Values in the Academy?
Can professors share their commitments and concerns with other colleagues on campus?
How about with students?
How can professors cooperate to build a more peace-friendly campus environment, for the well-being of all? Especially during turbulent times?
This is a stimulating presentation on the relation between religion and the academy on issues of peace-building, given by Prof. John Nixon of the University of Nevada at Las Vegas at a PWPA International conference in January 2024.

Dr. John Nixon holds an undergraduate degree in religion, a master’s in divinity, and a doctorate in counselor education. His professional life has been one of having a foothold in the academic world of counselor education and the clinical practice world of mental health counseling. Bringing elements of his professional life together finds him in his seventh year now as a professor in residence at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, in the Counselor Education program. However, the core of his identity is found with active involvement in his Orthodox Christian faith throughout his life. Most recently, John was ordained a deacon in the Greek Orthodox Church, and his service is attached to his home parish of St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church in Las Vegas.
